Only seventy minutes play was possible on the second day of the rain-affected LV=County Championship match between Glamorgan and Northamptonshire at the SWALEC Stadium with the visiting side on 145/5 and leading by 11 runs.
After an opening day which had seen thirteen wickets tumble in two and a half sessions, plus some lavish swing and plenty of lateral movement off the seam, Glamorgan's bowlers were eager to get further amongst the visitor's batting.
For their part, Northamptonshire's overnight batsmen - Stephen Peters and Rob Newton - were also looking to further chisel away at the deficit and then to build a decent lead.
But at 10.30am a band of drizzle moved in across the ground and forced both sets of players to retreat to the pavilion and shortly afterwards, as the rain got heavier, and all of the protective sheets were placed over the square, the umpires delayed the start of play.
With the precipitation still falling, the umpires called for an early lunch at 12.30pm, as well as deciding to make a further inspection at the same time. Luckily, the rain had then eased, so play will start at 1.10pm with just 16 overs lost.

For their part, Northamptonshire's overnight batsmen - Stephen Peters and Rob Newton - were also looking to further chisel away at the deficit and then to build a decent lead. But for most of the morning, a band of drizzle hung over the ground, but it did clear around lunchtime and play duly began at 1.10pm with just sixteen overs lost in the day's allocation.
With his side starting the day 26 runs in arrears, Northants captain Stephen Peters scored the first run of the day as he clipped Graham Wagg through mid-wicket before four overs later, Rob Newton punched the same bowler through extra cover and gully in successive balls before steering him through backward point for another boundary.
At the other end, Michael Hogan delivered another waspish spell, beating the outside edge on several occasions before Jim Allenby and Mike Reed bowled in tandem, with Northants taking the lead as Newton cut the latter to the vacant third man boundary. But with the total on 137, Allenby made the breakthrough as he trapped Newton leg before.
Andrew Hall announced his arrival at the crease by firmly straight-driving Reed for four but next over, Allenby struck again - and still without having conceded a run in the frugal spell, as Peters edged to Stewart Walters at second slip and departed for 67. But as he walked off, light rain started to fall again and with the light deteriorating, the umpires took the players off the field at 2.20pm with Northants on 145/5.
