Glamorgan will look to bounce back from their 43-run defeat at home to Hampshire last Thursday when they play their first Championship match on Lancashire soil for a dozen years as they travel to Old Trafford for the four-day encounter which is scheduled to start at 11am on Monday, July 15th.
Match Preview
The two teams have already met this season in the LV=County Championship with the match in the first week of May at Colwyn Bay seeing the Red Rose county win by 14 runs as Glamorgan - chasing a target of 154 on the third afternoon - dramatically collapsed from 94/2 to 139 all out with Simon Kerrigan taking 5/32. The Lancashire spinner was also in the wickets last week at Northampton where his side sealed a victory to take them to top spot in the Division Two table.
Mark Wallace and his side will be hoping for better weather than on their last visit to Manchester back in 2001 when incessant rainfall led to the contest being washed out without a single ball being bowled. Their last away victory in Lancashire was in the Championship-winning summer of 1997 when a torrid spell of pace bowling on the final day by Waqar Younis at Liverpool saw Lancashire dismissed for just 51 as Glamorgan won a rain-affected game by 221 runs.
As far as Glamorgan victories in Manchester are concerned, the Welsh county's most recent success in a Championship match at Old Trafford came in 1993 when 95 from Adrian Dale and 55 by Matthew Maynard steered the side to a seven-wicket victory in another contest which was affected by rain.
