Glamorgan seam bowler John Glover, who scooped the Young Player of the Year Award last season, has received a further boost this year with the backing of a group of supporters, the Glamorgan Travellers.
John Glover made his first-class debut for Durham MCCU in 2008 whilst studying at the University. The following summer the accurate seam bowler from Cwmbran took 5/38 against Durham - a performance which led to him having a trial with Glamorgan and subsequently a place on the Welsh county's playing staff.
After making his debut for the County in 2011, last year's Young Player of the Year award was just deserves for Glover who impressed with a number of key performances, including taking 4 wickets in the final game of the season, the home win against Kent.
This season John has been a regular in the Glamorgan Championship match day squads, although not always in the starting XI, Glover picked up four wickets at Grace Road and 6 wickets in the match Glamorgan dominated against Lancashire at Colwyn Bay. Following a slight injury Glover has returned to action most recently appearing for the Seconds at the T20 games in Bristol.
John Glover said, "I'm delighted to be sponsored by The Glamorgan Travellers this season. These guys follow the team at every game so we see and hear them at home games across the country, giving the lads great support.
"I'm sure if they could afford it they would sponsor every one of our players, but the fact they have singled me out, makes me feel privileged."
There are twenty five 'Glamorgan Travellers,' the name came about through becoming firm friends from their continued support of the team at away games up and down the country. The "Travellers" consist of supporters from Ipswich, Bristol, Hereford, Walsall and Hertfordshire, as well as "locals" of course!
'Glamorgan Traveller,' Gavin Rowlands said "We wanted to do something to support the club, and to try and show how important it is to us that young Welsh Cricketers continue to break into the First team. We chose John Glover as not only did he make a big impact last season in some pressure situations, but he is also a good ambassador for the club.
"We wish him every success and look forward to his return to the team once he has recovered from his injury."
