On the eve of the opening game of the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, Glamorgan Cricket have reported that the weather isn't the only thing warming up, with the Club's ticket office being inundated with phone calls and walk-ups from people wanting to buy the hottest tickets in town.
With tomorrow's opening match between India and South Africa having already sold out, Glamorgan have now announced that there is limited ticket availability for the England v New Zealand group match on Sunday 16th June and also for the semi-final on Thursday 20th June.
Glamorgan's Chief Executive Alan Hamer said:
"The arrival of the teams in Cardiff, coupled with the fantastic weather and standout performances the two warm up games, has resulted in a significant increase in the demand for tickets for the Cardiff ICC Champions Trophy matches.
As a result, we've now increased the opening times of our ticket office and have recruited additional staff to man the phones.
As of this morning, we have just under 1,000 tickets remaining for England's deciding group match against New Zealand on Sunday 16th June and expect these to sell out over the next couple of days.
However, the biggest selling match over recent days has been the semi-final - we now have less than 4,000 tickets remaining for this match.
Once the tournament is underway, we expect the remaining tickets to be snapped up very quickly as supporters work out which teams (Winner of India's group against the runners up of England's group) will return to Cardiff for the semi-final on Thursday 20th June"
The Club also confirmed that ticket sales for the other two Cardiff matches, Sri Lanka v New Zealand on Sunday 9th June and West Indies v South Africa on 14th June are also selling well.
Hamer added:
"All five Cardiff matches will feature the World's best cricketers.
New Zealand's recent strong performances against England have grabbed the headlines and their opening match in Cardiff this Sunday against Sri Lanka, will see the likes of McCullum and Guptill taking on Dilshan and Malinga".
There is also increased attention on the West Indies v South Africa match on Friday 14th June - not only will it be their deciding group match but provides supporters with the only opportunity to see Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard pit their wits against Hashim Amla, AB De Villiers and Dale Steyn."
"I would encourage those planning to attend one of the matches to purchase their tickets as soon as possible."
