Some outstanding seam bowling and smart fielding saw Glamorgan reduce Kent to 73/4 when bad light stopped play shortly before the close of the second day of their LV=County Championship match at Canterbury after the Welsh county had amassed a first innings total of 378.
Mark Wallace then joined Goodwin, as the floodlights were turned on, with the veteran completing an invaluable half-century from 94 balls. The veteran drew on all of his experience to blunt the Kent attack in difficult batting conditions as the pair watchfully accumulated to secure a batting point before Kent took the new ball with Glamorgan on 235/5.
Having struck Mitchell Claydon for six to hasten Glamorgan's progress towards further batting points, Wallace was then caught on the leg-side boundary attempting to repeat the stroke, having added 105 for the sixth wicket.
The combative Graham Wagg duly joined Goodwin but after a series of forcing blows he was well caught in the covers, before Goodwin eventually departed in the same position as Sam Northeast completed the catch to give Charlie Shreck another wicket.
As last week at Bristol, Michael Hogan then used the long handle to good effect with a volley of lusty blows before being bowled by Calum Haggett. Dean Cosker and Mike Reed also flayed the tiring attack shortly before tea, with the latter completing a career-best 27 before being the last wicket to fall as he departed l.b.w in the 120th over.
But with the total on 21, Kent lost their first wicket as Northeast edged Wagg to Jim Allenby at first slip. Next over, the left-armer might have claimed a second scalp but a diving Stewart Walters at second slip spilled the chance from Daniel Bell-Drummond. However, the highly-rated youngster departed to Mike Reed as he flicked a ball into Ben Wright's hands at mid-wicket.
Wright then pouched a second catch after Hogan switched to the Nackington Road End to remove Rob Key, and 58/3 soon became 65/4 as two overs later Hogan struck again as Brendan Nash was caught behind. Shortly afterwards, the floodlights came on again and with the light deteriorating, the umpires took the players off shortly before 6pm.
