Wales Minor Counties narrowly lost their MCCA quarter-final match against Shropshire at Shifnal yesterday by two wickets despite a fine spell of 4/33 by Alex Jones.

Batting first Wales Minor Counties made 190 in 46.3 overs with Jack Murphy top-scoring with 47. Jones chipped in with 34, whilst Dan Roberts and Aneurin Norman contributed 28 and 24 apiece.

Chasing their target of 191, Shropshire slipped to 38/4 before Omar Ali - brother of former Worcestershire and Gloucestershire batsman Kadeer Ali - made 67. Jones then made further inroads, including claiming the wicket of Ali as Shropshire slipped to 173/8. But a trio of fours by Elliott Green saw Shropshire to their target in the 48th over to end Wales Minor County's excellent run in this year's 50-over competition.
