Michael Hogan has been named Glamorgan's Player of the Year 2013 and St Helen's Balconiers Player of the Year 2013 at the Club's Annual Awards night at the Tower's Hotel, Swansea.
Hogan enjoyed an outstanding first season in county cricket after moving from his native Western Australia, claiming 103 wickets in all cricket, including 67 wickets in the LV= County Championship and 28 in the Yorkshire Bank 40, more than any other county player in the tournament, as he helped Glamorgan to a Lord's showpiece final for the first time in 13 years.
With career-best figures of 7/92 against Gloucestershire in the LV=County Championship encounter at Bristol, Hogan is the first Glamorgan bowler to take over 100 wickets for the Welsh county in all cricket in a season since Michael Kasprowicz claimed 105 wickets in 2003.
Hogan was also shortlisted for the prestigious NatWest PCA Player of the Year Award along with winner Moeen Ali, Durham fast bowler Graham Onions and Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel. Although he did not win the award he has also been included in the FTI Team of the Year XI: Joe Root (Yorkshire & England), Michael Klinger (Gloucestershire), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire & England), Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire), Ben Stokes (Durham & England), Phil Mustard (Durham), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire & England), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire & England), Michael Hogan (Glamorgan), James Anderson (Lancashire & England).
On recieving his awards, Michael said,"It is nice to be recognised and I have thoroughly enjoyed the season. It is great to receive the Glamorgan awards while the PCA shortlist is voted for by your fellow players so I was very humbled to be part of that group.
"I certainly did not expect that in my first season." I still don't think I adapted as quickly as most people think," said Hogan.
"A lot of the success was probably down to the opposition not knowing what I did as a bowler. It took a longer than I thought to adjust and hopefully this will be the start for the next three seasons.
"I want to help the county get promotion. We have achieved a lot in the one-day game this summer and proved a lot of people wrong, but we know we have a lot to prove in four-day cricket.
"With a side with so much talent we should have achieved more. We had certain chances which we missed which turned our championship season.
"We know we have the talent to at least finish in the top half of the division and I hope we can at least achieve that next season."
"If you keep putting the ball in the right areas you will get your reward. I realised I was not fast enough to intimidate anyone so the best way to go about things was out the ball on the spot."
At the awards event there were a number of other notable winners with all-rounder Jim Allenby receiving the One-Day Player of the Year Award for the second year running, and Murray Goodwin the Championship Player of the Year Award. Allenby's all-round performances with bat and ball were a regular feature of Glamorgan successes in 2013, as he collected 40 wickets in all cricket and scored over 2,000 runs in the season. The last Glamorgan batsman to aggregate over 2,000 runs in all forms of cricket in a season was Alviro Petersen in 2011.
