Mark Wallace and his team will be hoping that it will be third time lucky for the Welsh county as they appear in their third-ever one-day final at Lord's, meeting the Notts Outlaws in the final of the Yorkshire Bank40 on Saturday, September 21st (start time 11.30am)
Match Preview
Glamorgan are the only county never to have won a showpiece one-day final at Lord's, having been on the losing side on both occasions, losing to Middlesex in the Gillette Cup in September 1977, whilst in June 2000 they were beaten by Gloucestershire in the final of the Benson and Hedges Cup - a match which saw captain Matthew Maynard score a memorable hundred to win the Man-of the-Match Award, besides becoming the first batsman in the history of the game to make hundreds in both the semi-final and final of a one-day competition.
The Welsh county have played a total of 375 limited-overs matches since that game at Lord's in 2000 with the nearest they have got to playing in another final of a domestic one-day competition coming in 2004 when they appeared at Twenty20 Finals Day, held at Edgbaston, where they lost to the Leicestershire Foxes in the semi-final.
In contrast Nottinghamshire have been to Lord's on four previous occasions, winning two and losing two, with their most recent success coming in the Benson and Hedges Cup of 1989 when they defeated Essex by three wickets
As far as the one-day competition is concerned, Glamorgan have won the competition on three previous occasions, winning in September 1993 at Canterbury in a memorable game against Kent which saw Tony Cottey score the winning runs with legendary West Indian Viv Richards at the non-strikers end. In 2002 Glamorgan won the Sunday League again at Canterbury, as the Welsh county under acting captain Robert Croft following an injury to Steve James led Glamorgan to victory over Kent in a nail-biting contest by four runs at the St. Lawrence ground. Croft was also at the helm again in August 2004 when his side beat Lancashire at Colwyn Bay by five wickets to lift the one-day crown.
Glamorgan defeated the Outlaws the last time the two sides met in a 40 overs game - last summer at Swansea when they won a rain-affected contest by two runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method, thanks to a vibrant half-century by Ben Wright, who was one of Glamorgan's batting heroes in their 31-run victory over the Hampshire Royals in the semi-final at the Ageas Bowl. However, the Outlaws completed a home and away double over Glamorgan in 2011, winning at both Swansea and Nottingham.
