Surrey are 209/7 when rain ends play at The Kia Oval

Yesterday, Surrey had slipped to 34/3 before Steven Davies and Zafar Ansari added 122 in 50 overs with the latter completing a patient, but invaluable half-century. With the new ball just six overs away, Glamorgan's bowlers were eager to make further inroads into the home batting but the weather prevented any action until 12.20pm, with thirteen overs being lost from the day's allocation.

Jason Roy struck the day's first boundary, on-driving Ruadhri Smith before Ansari edged the youngster through the slip cordon for another boundary. Roy also edged Jim Allenby just short of Stewart Walters at second slip but next ball, the batsman was caught behind by Mark Wallace as Surrey lost their sixth wicket on 193. Four more balls were delivered before the light deteriorated again, forcing the players back to the pavilion for a further four overs.

Allenby then added another scalp to his tally as Tom Curran, on his Championship debut, edged the all-rounder with Wallace taking another fine catch low down taking to his right in front of the first slip. After 81 overs, Michael Hogan returned to the attack at the Pavilion End as the new ball was taken. Stuart Meaker slashed both Allenby and Hogan through the gully for four as Surrey gained their first batting point.

The rain continued to fall until after 3pm, and following an inspection the umpires decided that play would resume at 4.05pm with 39 overs remaining in the day's allocation.

Shortly before the players were about to take the field at 4.05pm, it started to rain and the protective sheets came back on.

Further spells of rain continued and the umpires called play off for the day at 5.10pm with just 12.5 overs having been bowled.
