As in 2015, Leicestershire are Glamorgan’s first opponents in the LV=County Championship, but unlike last year, the opening encounter between the two teams takes place at The SSE SWALEC rather than Leicester, with the contest at Glamorgan’s headquarters scheduled to get underway at 11.00am on Sunday, April 17th with the game also being the first in the Club's history where an uncontested toss may occur following changes to the ECB regualtions.

Glamorgan defeated Leicestershire by 137 runs when the two sides met at Cardiff in June 2015. Decent innings by Graham Wagg (94), Chris Cooke (84), Jacques Rudolph (74) and Colin Ingram (60) all put Glamorgan into the ascendancy before a fine all-round bowling performance quelled the visitors efforts to chase a target of 324 in a minimum of 126 overs as Glamorgan eased to victory shortly after lunch on the final afternoon.

Bad light and rain saved Leicestershire from defeat in 2014 when their ninth wicket pair were at the crease. The game at the Cardiff ground in 2012 also ended all-square, but on their previous two visits to the Welsh capital, the East Midlands side were heavily beaten by Glamorgan. In September 2008 Glamorgan were victorious by ten wickets after Gareth Rees had made 140 and Michael Powell 120, before an eight-wicket haul by David Harrison had seen Leicestershire follow-on.

The last time Leicestershire won a first-class game at the Cardiff ground was in July 2001 when they were victorious by an innings and 90 runs after openers Iain Sutcliffe (203) and Trevor Ward (109) shared a first wicket stand of 198. Phil de Freitas then took 6/65 as Glamorgan followed-on before fellow England fast bowler Devon Malcolm claimed 5/98.
