Young Welsh Cricketer Shines As Captain

Will Sissons, a Year 10 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School in Conwy, co-captained the Wales U15 side against Wellington School on Sunday, May 15, and the talented all-rounder continued his fine start to the campaign with another impressive performance.

Batting at number six at the Mumbles, Swansea, Sissons looked assured at the produced an impressive knock of 72 which was filled with a number of eye catching strokes.

The 15 year-old also hit an unbeaten 82 as Rydal Penrhos first XI recorded an impressive nine run win over Oswestry School on Saturday. Sissons was nominated for the Cricket World performance of the week after a knock of 120 and a bowling effort of 5-17 against King’s School Chester.

Head of Cricket Mike Leach, said: “It was another brilliant weekend for Will, who continues to shine for both school and country. He is an immensely talented cricketer who has demonstrated a tremendous work ethic. To captain your country is an exceptional honour and one that everyone at Rydal Penrhos is extremely proud of.”

Sissons development at the school is overseen by former Glamorgan County cricketer Will Owen, who upon his retirement last year has undertaken a coaching role with Rydal Penrhos to help pass on his experience and knowledge to the likes of Sissons and others.
