Following the opening LV= County Championship win of 2013, both Glamorgan's club captain Mark Wallace, along with Jim Allenby, who made a man of the match contribution of 78 runs and 5 wickets, spoke to the media.

Mark Wallace Post Match Reflections

"It took us quite a long time to get that first Championship win under the belt last year, so to start now with a hard fought win is a great feeling.

"It was a slightly fortunate draw last week, but this week we showed the side we are.

"We dominated this game from the start really and to finish them off so clinically is a good sign.

Team Performance

"There were contributions all the way through the team. Winning cricket games at this time of year takes a real team effort.

"It's about doing some hard work and getting some ugly runs. All the way through the batting order there were contributions and we were outstanding throughout both innings in our bowling attack

"We are very happy with what we've done in this game. The key now is to make this a benchmark for what we want to do for the season going forward. We don't want this to be a high point of the season we want it to be the start of a good run of similar performances."

Bowlers

"It was important to win the toss to get the momentum, both teams wanted to bowl, but there is still that pressure on your bowlers to perform and take the advantage which we really did.

"Michael Hogan led the way, then Mike Reed followed he's an exciting talent and he showed with his wickets what he can do, but it's not only the guys in the wickets but it's also the guys who have to bowl into the wind that do the hard work. It was a collective effort that let us stamp our authority on the game straight away was crucial.

"Our plan is to keep the scoreboard as slow as possible, and take control of the games, then when the wickets do come sides have not gone away from you. We have a bowling attack now capable of doing that and then being aggressive and taking wickets to change those gears.

Captain's Contribution

"The plans we put in place came off in this game which is really good and hopefully its about doing that in the games to come

"Will Bragg is a very capable bowler he bowls in the nets and is always keen to get a bowl, so when there is an opportunity to chuck him the ball he is keen to do it, and he didn't let us down.

"Our bowling coach Steve Watkin was apparently unhappy with the decision when we did it but he was happy to take a back seat

"There is a lot of bowling changes and fielding positions that don't work so its nice when a few do come off.

Next Match

"I think at this stage we do welcome this little break, the season can come on you very quickly

"We've played two games back to back and obviously Michael Hogan is new to English cricket and the rigours of the game here and a young bowler in Mike Reed who could probably do with rest as well.

"It's a good time to step back and have a look at what we've done and then push on to the next stage starting with Lancashire at Colwyn Bay who are a good side, so we want to take our momentum from this week, followed by a good week's practice and head up there ready to compete."

Jim Allenby Post Match Comments
"It was nice to get the win, after last week when we peaked towards the end of that match, we hit the ground running from the first day in this game and never really let them in the game.

New Ball

"Having batted in that situation before you can slip into the trap of everyone waiting for the new ball and we knew if got one wicket before it (the new ball) we would have a chance so to get two (wickets) was massive.

"The wicket from Michael Hogan probably summed the game up for us, a lot went our way and the catch from Hogan was an unbelievable catch that shocked Worcestershire a bit and got us firing. That amazing catch was probably the turning point to get the game over so quickly today.

Team Victory

"The two wickets from Bragg were awesome, Moeen Ali is probably one of the better batters in County cricket in my view, so it's always nice if a batter does take a wicket. It's like a bowler getting thirty or forty runs down the order like Dean Cosker did, it's those sort of things that do win you games. Sometimes they go unnoticed but for an opening batter to get two wickets and the number 9 to get 45 not out just showed it was a complete team performance.

Weather & Wickets

"It was nice to feel the ball coming off the middle early season, although the weather has not been that dissimilar from last year, the pitches here have been amazing.

"Fair play to Keith (Glamorgan's groundsman) he's had some absolute belters up for us. Last week's pitch was probably the best I have ever played on at the SWALEC Stadium in four years and this one was not far behind. You do feel a better player playing on good pitches and that's what we have at the moment. We have a good side so we need good pitches and that's what we've got.

"It was a big toss to win, but probably the weather more than anything played its part though, day one was overcast so the ball swung around a bit and we have a world class bowler in Hogan who bowled great and a big lanky fella (Reed) who got five-for so we made the most of it.

"Then that big wind we had on the second day would have been a nightmare to bowl into, which thankfully we didn't have to face, so the weather did help but if you do the right things you tend to get bits of luck like that

Playing to Win

"I spoke about Glamorgan needing to win not just be competitive - no player wants to only be competitive - we play to win so that's what I said and I still believe it and I always will. Today we've done it so we need to keep winning for us to meet our potential and justify the quality in the changing room

"We 've done it this week and we did it for the second half of last week's game so we need to keep doing it for 5 months, it's not a one month season. If you have the quality we have there's no reason why we cant have performances like this as an average day not as a great day. That's our benchamark but its certainly not the best we can play.

"We've done a lot of work in the winter in terms of our mindset, something we've perhaps needed to do for a while. We've got Mike O'Brien on board and he's helped, he's been invaluable to myself.

Mike the Psych is a Sports Psychologist and he's been great for us, he's helped me, he's helped a lot of the boys individually but also the team to be more difficult to beat and to recognise those moments in games and that's the sort of thing we've needed after the last couple of years."
