Glamorgan's narrow two-wicket defeat by Gloucestershire at Bristol on Sunday means that the Welsh county have to win their last two matches in the Yorkshire Bank40 in order to maintain their hopes of a semi-final spot.

After their victory on Sunday, Gloucestershire have now moved level with Somerset on 15 points and seven wins, with the two West Country teams each having one game remaining with the two teams meeting each other at Bristol on Bank Holiday Monday in what could prove to be a winner-takes-all contest.

In contrast, Glamorgan are currently in third place in the table on 13 points, still with two games to play - next Sunday against the Leicestershire Foxes, who were humbled yesterday by the Unicorns as they went down to a 42-run defeat at their headquarters at Grace Road, followed on Bank Holiday Monday by a game against the Yorkshire Vikings at Leeds.

If Glamorgan win their last two games, and Gloucestershire defeat Somerset, with neither team changing their net run rate, Glamorgan would clinch a semi-final spot by finishing top of the group. A Glamorgan victory in their last two games, and then a tie or a washout next Monday at Bristol, would also see the Welsh county progress to the last four as group winners.

A Glamorgan victory in their last two games and a Somerset win next Monday at Bristol makes things, at present, less clear cut as both the Welsh county and the West Country side would be equal on points and with the same number of victories. In this case, the group positions are determined by the net run rate and, at present. Somerset's rate is superior to Glamorgan's.

If Somerset finish as group winners ahead of Glamorgan, the team joining the top teams in each group in the semi-finals will be determined by the best runner-up so Glamorgan will have to also monitor results in the other two groups.
