They won the Sunday League title in 1993 wearing the blue and yellow kit and now after their rousing back-to-back victories this week in the YB40 at Cardiff, Glamorgan's retro-kit from twenty years ago is acting as a lucky talisman for Marcus North and his team as they press for a semi-final spot in the one-day competition.
Their 11-run victory on Wednesday evening under the SWALEC Stadium floodlights has taken Glamorgan level on points - and the number of victories - with leaders Somerset with the West Country side taking top spot at present by virtue of their superior run rate. Glamorgan however have a game in hand over Somerset, and they will look to make this work to their advantage in the final two weeks of qualification.
Glamorgan meet Gloucestershire, currently in third place with the same number of points and wins, but with an inferior run rate, on Sunday, August 18th at Bristol before playing back-to-back games, firstly at Swansea on Sunday, August 25th against the Leicestershire Foxes and then the next day, Monday, August 26th at Headingley Carnegie in Leeds against the Yorkshire Vikings.
Gloucestershire also have three games to play whereas Somerset only have two games remaining - today (August 15th) against the Yorkshire Vikings at Taunton, and then on August 26th away to Gloucestershire at Bristol. Gloucestershire are also in action today as they travel to Lord's to meet the Middlesex Panthers.
Unlike the Twenty20 competition, there are no quarter-finals in the Yorkshire Bank40 with the three group winners, plus the best runner-up progressing to the last four. The tie-breakers for group positions when teams are level on points will be, firstly the number of wins, and then secondly net run rate.
Marcus North and his team will therefore be keeping a close eye on the results of games elsewhere as they look to crown the Club's 125th anniversary by emulating the achievements of Hugh Morris and his men back in 1993 when wearing coloured kit bearing Glamorgan's trademark colours of blue and yellow to success in the one-day League.
