Mike Reed took 5/66 as Glamorgan 2nd XI defeated Warwickshire 2nd XI by four wickets on the final day of their Second Eleven Championship match at Cardiff CC.
Resuming the day on 210/7, Reed polished off Warwickshire's resistance in a feisty spell which saw the visitor's dismissed for 243, leaving Glamorgan with a victory target of 138. By lunch they had reached 72/2, with Stewart Walters making 41 and Nick James 31. Four further wickets tumbled after the interval but an unbeaten 27 by Ruaidhri Smith saw Glamorgan to their target in the 39th over.
Yesterday, Smith had top scored with 81 as Glamorgan 2nd XI made 264 on the second day of the match and built on the good work of the previous evening when Ben Wright had completed a composed half-century which included nine fours. In all, Smith, who has already appeared for Scotland in the YB40 competition, batted for three and a quarter hours with his innings including a six and a dozen fours. For the visitors, Tom Allin - the son of former Glamorgan spinner Tony - took 4/33 as Glamorgan secured a decent first innings lead of 106.
On the opening day of the contest, Alex Jones took 4/39 as Warwickshire 2nd XI were dismissed for 158, with Jones gaining rewards for his probing line and length. Mike Reed also showed that he is well on the road to recovery from a hip injury by taking 3/59 besides extracting sharp lift and pace from the wicket at the Diamond Ground. Jack Murphy and Andrew Salter also claimed a wicket apiece, with the latter claiming a scalp with his very first delivery as Jonathan Webb became one of five victims for wicket-keeper Gary Knight.
