Worcestershire completed a eight wicket victory against Glamorgan at New Road shortly after lunch on the final day of their LV=County Championship match.
The first boundary of the day came in the third over when Allenby crisply drove Russell to the mid-wicket boundary, before Owen deftly steered Alan Richardson through backward point. But two balls later the veteran uprooted Owen's stumps as Glamorgan lost their eighth wicket for 211. Michael Hogan announced his arrival with a pair of booming off-drives against Russell with the ball being sent speeding to the boundary fence much faster than it had left the bowler's hands!
Another fierce slash by Hogan against Richardson, followed by a savage pull against Russell wiped off the arrears, before the Australian unfurled another pair of fierce on-drives against the young seamer. His run spree continued as he pulled Richardson for four before off-driving Joe Leach in his first over of the morning at the Diglis End. He then brought up the fifty stand by biffing Jack Shantry through mid-off, before Allenby - who had contributed just seven singles to the partnership guided Leach to the ropes at third man.
Three balls later, Leach ended Hogan's innings as he bowled the batsman as he attempted to unleash another howitzer-like blow leaving Glamorgan on 268/9. Mike Reed duly replaced him and in contrast to the hurricane-like hitting of his predecessor stoutly defended with a ramrod straight bat until edging the first ball of the 80th over into the wicket-keeper's gloves.
Needing 51 to win and a minimum of 76 overs remaining, Daryl Mitchell and Matt Pardoe were keen to finish things off before lunch as the local meteorologists were forecasting rain during the afternoon and drizzle was starting to fall as Mitchell guided Reed to the vacant ropes at third man before driving him to the boards at long-on. It got heavier and forced the players off for an early lunch with the home side on 20/0 in the third over.
But with fourteen runs needed, Mitchell edged a ball from Reed into Stewart Walters' hands at second slip as Moeen Ali duly joined Matt Pardoe. With five needed, Marcus North came on at the New Road and removed Pardoe with his first ball as the opener drove the spinner straight to Will Owen at mid-off. But four balls later, the contest ended as Moeen on-drove North to secure the winning boundary
