Glamorgan County Cricket Club are delighted to confirm both the ICC Champions Trophy opening fixture, India v South Africa, as well as September's England versus Australia One-Day International are both sell out fixtures in the welsh capital.
The heavyweight ODI clash between current ICC World Cup holders, India, and South Africa, winners of the inaugural ICC Champions Trophy in 1998, has become the sixth game of the global tournament taking place in England and Wales this June to sell out.
The initial allocation of tickets for the NatWest Series England versus Australia game has officially sold out too, with high demand for tickets attributed to pre-Ashes excitement, a Saturday date for the fixture and Glamorgan's initiative to link ticket sales for England games in Cardiff this year with a guaranteed right for those fans to buy a ticket for the Investec Ashes Test when the Series returns to Wales in 2015.
Cricket fans can still see England in Cardiff this year, as tickets for the decisive group fixture against New Zealand are still available. As well as the importance of the fixture in the tournament, competitively priced tickets for this Father's Day clash on Sunday 16th June are making this fixture an appealing proposition for supporters in the South West and Wales when compared to other international events this summer, so anyone yet to purchase are encouraged to act quickly.
Furthermore Glamorgan confirm that any ticket buyer for this England versus New Zealand fixture will also be entitled the right to purchase an Ashes ticket in 2015 in Cardiff. An additional train service from Bristol to Cardiff is now available via the First Great Western website for the England versus New Zealand fixture on 16th June.
England could yet still face a third fixture in Wales this year as the Cardiff Wales Stadium hosts the second semi-final, between the runner up of Pool B (England's group) and the winner of Pool A (India's group). Tickets still remain for this fixture.
2013 sees Glamorgan celebrate its 125th anniversary year and with six days of international cricket in Cardiff, the world's best players will be on show and the Club is delighted with the positive response and high demand from cricket supporters in Wales and the South West.
David Morgan, Glamorgan President said, "The opportunity to stage five prestigious ICC Champions Trophy fixtures in Cardiff is an exciting one. To be able to mark Glamorgan's 125th anniversary, with the world's best in action here, is a real accolade for Wales, and recognition for the successful way international cricket has been staged in Cardiff.
"The fact that Cardiff will host England versus New Zealand during the tournament, 40 years on from when the two teams met in Swansea for the first international cricket match in Wales is also very fitting.
"I'm delighted to confirm two games in Cardiff including the opening Champions Trophy tournament fixture on June 6th has sold out. With two games on weekends and affordable ticket prices for each fixture, I hope the tournament continues to appeal to cricket supporters across Wales and the West."
Alan Hamer, Glamorgan Chief Executive added,
"In a summer packed full of cricket, we've ensured that fans across can enjoy world class cricket at exceptional value. A family of four can enjoy a day of fantastic cricket from just £50."
