When Glamorgan play their opening games in the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition this Bank Holiday weekend, the players will sport their brand new coloured kit, which is sure to attract attention for a number of reasons.
Fittingly for the Club's 125th anniversary year, the Club's long history will be with each and every player, as the kit specially created by supplier Gray-Nicolls, celebrates not only the Welsh county's long and proud history, but also their success twenty years ago in winning their first-ever title in one-day cricket.
The blue and yellow kit in a retro style design from twenty years ago is a modern version of the 1993 clothing worn when coloured kits were first introduced and when the welsh county won the Sunday League for the first time, under the captaincy of Hugh Morris.
Glamorgan's very own Canterbury tale, a decisive victory over Kent, on 19th September, 1993 has gone down in the Club's folklore as one of the great day's in their illustrious history, with Tony Cottey - in the company of the legendary West Indian batsman Viv Richards - hitting the winning runs to seal a historic win by six wickets.
The Glamorgan side that won the 1993 AXA Equity and Law League title at Canterbury contained several other great names in the history of the Club, including batsmen Steve James and Matthew Maynard, all-rounders Adrian Dale and Robert Croft, wicket-keeper Colin Metson, plus bowlers Steve Watkin, Steve Barwick and Roland Lefebvre.
This famous eleven from September 1993 feature amongst the names of 500 or so men to have played for the county since their inaugural fixture as a third-class county back in 1889. Each and every name of the men who have subsequently gone on to represent the Club with such distinction and pride, adorns the Glamorgan kit this year.
Furthermore in an innovative approach to marketing of an international match, on the back of the players kits "CARDIFF 16 JUNE" will be displayed to highlight to supporters, and Sky Sports television viewers watching the Middlesex versus Glamorgan fixture at Lord's on Bank Holiday Monday, that tickets for this summer's England versus New Zealand ICC Champions Trophy fixture in Cardiff are still available to purchase from www.icc-cricket.com
Two other international cricket matches in Cardiff have already sold out this season so this potentially crucial group fixture on Father's Day is likely to be the next game to sell out in the Welsh capital and any ticket buyer for this game will also guarantee the right to purchase an Investec Ashes Test Match ticket when the Series returns to Wales in 2015.
The Club's Yorkshire Bank 40 kit is sponsored by Sytner Cardiff BMW.
Glamorgan replica kit will be available to online next week. Further details follow
