Jim Allenby impressed with bat and ball for the Western Australian Chairman's XI in their three-day match against England in the opening game of the Ashes tour at the WACA in Perth.

With several of Western Australia's players on tour in India with the national side, and the state side also involved in a Sheffield Shield contest in Melbourne, Jim plus several grade cricketers and other guests were chosen in the Chairman's XI with Jim, who amassed over 2,000 runs in all cricket during the English season, getting an opportunity to display his all-round talents to the England selectors.

Batting at number 5 in the Chairman's line-up, Jim struck 53 from 98 balls as the invitation side amassed 451/5 declared. Today, he followed this up by becoming their most successful bowler as he claimed 4/58 from 22.5 overs as England were dismissed for 391. After trapping Joe Root on the second day for 36, in today's play Jim added the scalp of Ben Stokes before ending the England innings in consecutive balls as James Anderson and Boyd Rankin were also caught behind by wicket-keeper Tom Triffitt.

Two Glamorgan old boys will also be in action against England in the second match of the Ashes tour as Moises Henriques and Shaun Marsh appear for the Australia A side in a four-day match against England at the Bellerive Oval in Tasmania, with Henriques leading the Australian side which contains several players in contention for a place in Australia's one-day and Test line-up for the winter series
