Items belonging to the Riches family of Cardiff, especially NVH RIches - Glamorgan's first-ever captain in their inaugural summer in the County Championship in 1921 - are the latest to be on display in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket at the Welsh county's headquarters at the SWALEC Stadium.
The Riches family are the latest cricketing greats to be featured in displays in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket at Glamorgan's headquarters at the SWALEC Stadium.
Up until the New Year, a display in the Museum will feature items relating to Norman Riches, who was Glamorgan's captain in their inaugural County Championship match in 1921, as well as his son John who led Glamorgan 2nd XI after the Second World War, besides having a distinguished playing career with Cardiff CC.
Norman Riches was a dentist in Cardiff and in 1911 he became the first batsman in the history of Minor County cricket to score over a thousand runs in a season. Items from the Riches family which relate to this outstanding achievement, as well as Glamorgan's first-ever win in the County Championship, against Sussex at Cardiff in May 1921, will be featured in the Museum of Welsh Cricket during the course next three months alongside items from John Riches' career with both Glamorgan CCC and Cardiff CC.
"As a family, we are just so delighted that Norman is being remembered, especially as 2013 is Glamorgan Cricket's 125th anniversary" said Jane James, his grand-daughter, who has helped to assemble the material for the display in the Museum. "My grandfather first played for Glamorgan in 1901 and he subsequently featured in some of their pivotal matches as they strove for first-class status in the years either side of the Great War."
"It's so nice to see these artefacts on display in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket, and together with other items relating to Cardiff CC over the years, I'm so very proud about what both my grandfather and father achieved for Welsh cricket."
