Former Middlesex and Sussex batsman Toby Radford (41) has been appointed to succeed Matthew Mott as Head Coach of Glamorgan CCC and will commence his new appointment on 1st November 2013.

Caerphilly born Radford is currently assistant coach and specialist batting coach to the West Indies cricket team, and played a key role in coaching the team to victory in the ICC World T20 in Sri Lanka in 2012.

Toby is an ECB Level 4 coach and has gained significant coaching experience at all levels of the game over the past 18 years, including playing a key role in establishing the West Indian Cricket Academy and leading Middlesex to the ECB domestic twenty20 competition title in 2008. His experience of coaching and managing players of the calibre of Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Andrew Strauss, Eoin Morgan and Steven Finn will be invaluable in his role at Glamorgan.

Hugh Morris, who begins his role as Glamorgan Chief Executive in the New Year said: 'I am delighted Toby Radford has agreed to join Glamorgan County Cricket Club as our new Head Coach. In recent years Toby has built a strong reputation as one of the most talented young cricket coaches in England and Wales, and his experience of managing and developing some world class cricketers will be a great asset to our Club.

"He is a proud Welshman and is looking forward to working with our current players and nurturing local talent for the future.'

Toby Radford added: 'I am honoured to have been offered this position and look forward to working with Chief Executive and Director of Cricket Hugh Morris, and the playing and coaching staff of Glamorgan in bringing success back to the County I supported as a youngster.

"It was great to see the team reaching a Lord's final at the end of the season, and I believe we have a wonderful opportunity of building on this success and developing a team of which the Welsh nation can be proud.

Full name Toby Alexander Radford

Born December 3, 1971, Caerphilly, Glamorgan, Wales

Major teams Berkshire, Middlesex, Sussex

The 41 year-old was born in Caerphilly, and after appearing for England Young Cricketers and the England Under 19s, the batsman and occasional off-spinner played first-class cricket for Middlesex (1994-95) and Sussex (1996-97). Toby then had a spell playing and coaching Berkshire, during which he also played for Glamorgan 2nd XI, before coaching the Minor County side as well as acting as Berkshire's Cricket Development Officer. From 2001 to 2003 Toby was an ECB National Coach, during which time he worked with the England Under15, Under17 and Under19 teams.

In 2003 Toby was appointed as Middlesex's Academy Director, based at Finchley, before becoming the Club's 2nd XI coach in 2005. He was elevated to the position of 1st XI coach during the 2007 season and the following year, he was Middlesex's coach when they won the Twenty20 Cup. Around this time he also worked extensively with Andrew Strauss and helped to strengthen the technique of the man who subsequently became a high-class opening batsman and captain in Test cricket.

Toby's standing in the world of coaching was further enhanced in 2010 when he moved to the Caribbean to become the Director of the West Indies High Performance Centre. In March 2012 he was appointed as Assistant Coach to the national side, with special responsibilities to working with the gifted young batsmen in the national squad. Later that year Toby was working alongside Glamorgan old boy Ottis Gibson when the West Indies were crowned as World Twenty20 champions.

Cricket has therefore taken him from Caerphilly - where his family lived whilst his father was a journalist with the Western Mail newspaper - to the Home Counties and then out to the sun and sand of the Caribbean. Now, following his appointment with Glamorgan, Toby returns to South Wales for the next chapter in his coaching career.
