Glamorgan return to first-class action in the LV=County Championship with Mark Wallace and his side travelling to the South Coast to meet Hampshire in a four-day encounter at the Ageas Bowl starting at 11am on Friday, August 2nd.

Match Preview

The two sides met a month ago at Cardiff with Hampshire winning by 43 runs with James Tomlinson taking 5/44 as the Welsh county attempted to chase a target of 221 in 90 overs on the final day of the four-day contest. Hampshire completed home and away victories over Glamorgan in 2012, with the game at The Ageas Bowl also seeing the Welsh county's run chase falter as they lost a contest by 31 runs.

In fact, Glamorgan have yet to record a Championship victory at Hampshire's new headquarters, with their last win on Hampshire soil coming at Southampton in September 1991 when they won at the Northlands Road ground by seven wickets after the Welsh county had posted an impressive 504 in their first innings thanks to a career-best 243 by Matthew Maynard, plus 131 from Hugh Morris.

There are several personal milestones looming for the Glamorgan players with Jim Allenby needing a further 123 runs to reach a thousand runs for the season in first-class cricket, whilst Murray Goodwin after his outstanding 194 at Manchester requires a further 205 runs to reach the landmark.

On the bowling front, Michael Hogan also needs six wickets to reach the 50-mark and the former Western Australian seamer who has 44 scalps to his name goes into the contest against Hampshire with only Steve Magoffin, Chris Jordan and Simon Kerrigan ahead of him in the wicket-taking stakes in Championship cricket this summer.

Team News

Marcus North and Michael Hogan will return to Championship action after missing the match with Lancashire, with the pair replacing Nathan McCullum and Alex Jones from the side that drew at Old Trafford.

Mike Reed is also included in a 12-man squad after returning from injury this week in the 2nd XI match at Derby. The Glamorgan squad in full is - GP Rees, WD Bragg, MW Goodwin, MJ North, CB Cooke, J Allenby, MA Wallace (capt), GG Wagg, JC Glover, DA Cosker, MG Hogan and MT Reed .
