The opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy is underway in Cardiff in glorious sunshine with World Cup champions India posting a very competitive total of 331/7 against South Africa, who won the inaugural Champions Trophy tournament in 1998.
Today's opening match between India and South Africa has sold out, but there may some limited ticket returns which supporters can buy on the day. The ticket office at the Bowls Club opposite the Mochyn Du opens at 8.30 am.
Glamorgan have now announced that there is limited ticket availability for the England v New Zealand group match on Sunday 16th June and also for the semi-final on Thursday 20th June.
Last night Cardiff Castle played the host to opening dinner with a number of high profile guests including David Richardson ICC Chief Executive, Giles Clarke, ECB Chairman, First Minister for Wales Carwyn Jones, India Captain MS Dhoni, Sri Lanka Captain Angleo Matthews and a number of represenatives from ICC, ECB, Cricket South Africa and Glamorgan Cricket.
Glamorgan's Chief Executive Alan Hamer said:
"The arrival of the teams in Cardiff, coupled with the fantastic weather and standout performances the two warm up games, has resulted in a significant increase in the demand for tickets for the Cardiff ICC Champions Trophy matches.
"As a result, we've now increased the opening times of our ticket office and have recruited additional staff to man the phones.
We have shown over the last 5 years how successfully we can stage major sporting events and today is another example of our ability."
