It must be in the McCullum's blood!

Friday night saw Glamorgan's new signing Nathan McCullum take a wicket with his first-ever ball for the Welsh county as he enjoyed a sparkling debut for the Club - just like his younger brother Brendon, who struck a record-breaking century on his own debut for Glamorgan back in 2006.

By his own admission, Nathan's first delivery for Glamorgan was not the greatest-ever ball he has bowled during his career, but nevertheless it had the desired effect as Andre Russell, Worcestershire's new acquisition from the Caribbean, pulled it into the safe hands of Dean Cosker who was stationed on the mid-wicket boundary.

Later in the Worcestershire innings, McCullum added a second scalp as he held on - albeit at the third attempt - to an exocet-like drive sent back off his own bowling by Daryl Mitchell. The thud of the ball into his midriff forced the Kiwi off his feet, before he clung onto the rebound as he lay prone on the ground.

Back in 2006, his brother Brendon has also marked his debut for the Welsh county with a very special performance, making 160 against Leicestershire at Sophia Gardens, thereby recording the highest-ever individual score in a first innings in the County Championship for Glamorgan.

As far as Nathan's achievement of taking a wicket with his first ball for the Club is concerned, three other bowlers have previously achieved the feat. The most recent instance was in 1994 when all-rounder Gary Butcher dismissed Somerset's Nick Folland in the Sunday League match at Swansea. In 1957 Billy Davies claimed a wicket with his first-ever ball during the County Championship game against Surrey at The Oval, whilst in 1922 at Cardiff Arms Park in the Championship match against Somerset, opening bowler Jack Johns claimed a wicket with his first delivery as he had the visiting opener stumped by wicket-keeper Norman Riches.

Remarkably, this with the only senior game which Jack Johns played for Glamorgan - something that is most definitely not going to the case with Nathan McCullum, and after his fine bowling and fielding performance on Friday night at Worcester one can only speculate about what might lie ahead in the coming games.
